Access to health care is becoming a huge burden on Nigerian citizens, especially those in rural areas. The high poverty rate and lack of adequate health insurance are some of the causes of poor health care. Another issue is the economic situation of the country. Medical personnel are leaving the country in droves (the japa syndrome) worsening medical care to Nigerians, especially rural healthcare, and this has affected the people in the rural areas more. The mortality rate is very high in rural areas and is very high due to lack of quality medical care.
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt PHOENIX, understands that government alone can not do the work and that is why we stepped in to bridge the gap in partnership with Lions Club International and Market doctors, was in Okrika for a 2 day medical outreach on 3rd and 4th of July 2023.
Over 200 persons benefitted from the project, and the ultimate goal of preventing diseases and treatment was achieved
